What categories have you found to be the most useful, if you use them? What a silly thing to give so much attention to, but, well, we all do silly things from time to time. I could be mopping the floor, but truthfully, I'd prefer to do it at night so that it will stay pretty for a few hours before the children emerge.
I like categories that are actually helpful for people who are looking for something specific. For instance, wheat-free, or food. Books are a helpful category. What else have you found helpful? Or do you ignore them? Or do you also obsess over them and find yourself either giving every single entry a category of its very own, or trying to much things into pathetically vague categories, like lumping your homeschooling, political activism, latest reading lists, cute kid stories, and latest kitchen fiasco all into "education"? C'mon, fill me in, here.
Kiss those babies (and which category do you put them in?)

I tried doing the categories thing for awhile, then it starting getting kind of annoying to try and figure out what tags were appropriate so I stopped. I do like browsing other people's categories though, especially if they are pithily named. I think that the categories I enjoy the most are on Bearing Blog - http://arlinghaus.typepad.com/ - she has a zillion of them, but some of them are quite well named.
Hi Dy,
when I go to someone else's blog I am drawn towards the labels that are about homeschooling, parenting, or the ones that say "about us" or tell the family's story.
Out of your labels listed, I would probably check out life in the south, parenting and education first and then maybe food and family.
But if I had a gluten issue in my family I would probably check out the wheat-free one too and if I were renovating a home I would check out This Old Shack for sure.
So basically, I am no help at all! Sorry!
Amber, thanks. Her labels are hilarious, and I guess part of me was wondering if that would be helpful, or too obscure in a way. So ya think, "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Wheat" would be a good label? ;-)
Jules, HI!!! *waving maniacally* Actually, you're helpful. Be nice if you blogged a little more, but *wink* I know how it is with a wee one. It's good to see you.
Dy
I tried for broad-ish categories, otherwise it doesn't make much sense. Sometimes, nothing fits, though, so you need a catch-all.
Good morning, Dy--
I thought you'd left a comment the other day, but Bethany pointed out it was spelled "Di"---My sister had come to visit and I had almost missed it. LOL!
I've just started using the categories on my new Typepad blog. I've decided to use them for a few posts that I think people will want to find more often such as tomato staking or recipes. I'm not going to do it for all the posts.
FWIW,
Jean
Hey Dy-
I've been a busy beaver lately! Check out my blog- three posts in three days!! Wahoo!
Hi Dy
My categories on homeschoolblogger stink and are very unhelpful for the most part. I keep sticking things in "family fun" which sounds sooooooo intelligent. I like the tags in blogger. Tags I've used recently include: Pregnancy and Childbirth, Life with Baby, Pictures, Video, Holidays and Celebrations, Fun and Games, A Day in Our Life, Home Management
When I was pregnant, I definitely read anything in a pregnancy category on blogs I came across. I've even looked in your archives until I found EmBaby's birth announcement. :)
I'm making the categories up as I go along. Like the other day, I needed a new category: "asinine things that make me mad." That's the only thing that would work.
If I read a post and like it, I might click on the category, but I don't pay a lot of attention to them. I mostly put them on the end of my posts for fun.
Labels? Have they been there all along, or is this a new Blogger thing? I never look at them. If I read someone's blog, I'll give any topic they want to write on a try, though I may sometimes skim. I think you write so well that you could write about drywall or paint drying and it would be interesting (actually, I guess you have!).
Dy, I ignore the categories. Too tedious for my little brain. But on a totally unrelated note.....GO lOOK AT MY BLOG.....I did it! and I posted a picture! Tell me what you think!
"Categorization"? What's that? Might that be related in some way to "organization"? Yeh. I'm not gonna be of any help to you here. Good luck with the categories!! ;0D
I have a hard time with catagories. I can't help you.
Bye the way, I was dancing around the house when I saw my blog under the blogs you enjoy reading! ;-)
