Something to read! (Christmas gifts)

Andrew Lang's Fairy Tales - in their favorite colors!

The Yellow Fairy Book. The Blue Fairy Book. The Violet Fairy Book. (They don't have The Basketball Smack Talkin' Purple Fairy Book, so Violet will have to do.)

Miss Emily is getting a picture book. Because little ones need great picture books.

Sometimes I feel so... capable.

And we will have many delightful evenings filled with adventure, mystery, joy, folly, and imagination.

OK, something they'll like (GameCube - don't know if we can say they "want" it, as they don't even know it exists, but they will love it), and something to read. Two down. Now for something they need and something to wear (or play with - depends on which one we come up with an idea for first!)

What are you looking forward to seeing your loved ones open this Christmas?

Kiss those babies!

Sarah Jane will be getting the "classic" Little Golden Books, since we had to throw away our collection after Mr. Underfoot annointed them (he was letting us know he was suffering from a UTI, but still...Ew.) I have missed the Tawny Scrawny Lion. I can't say much more because little eyes may spy, but let's just say all three boys will be developing pedaling skills after Christmas! I can not wait to see their shiny little faces on Christmas Morning!

I love your ideas Dy. I will have to keep it in mind for next year since this year I had already finished. The theme for this year seems to be something electronic, something artistic and a board game. The big things I am excited about is that MB is getting a Gameboy Advance to replace her well-loved Leapster which died after nearly four years of constant use. K is getting an I Can Play Piano and EM is getting a race car track. They are all getting age-appropriate art supplies and board games/puzzles.

I love that something to... idea - I'm going to do that this year in order to rein myself in. I grew up with big Christmases (I recently came across some pictures and really, it was ridiculous!) and it is a little hard for me to not feel like I am depriving my children by not having mountains of stuff for them to unwrap. Intellectually I know it is a bad idea in so many ways, but emotionally... well, I'm doing better at least. Now if I could just rein my mother in a bit with this all - every year I gently remind her to keep things smaller this year, and while they are smaller than when I was a kid they are still rather much!

For the something to read component, Emma is getting Tales of King Arthur: The Sword in the Stone by Hudson Talbott. She loves these books and we almost always have at least one of them out from the library. Of course her favorite of the series (the Lancelot one) is out of print, but I think this one will do. :-) Gregory is getting a big touch and feel book about puppies because he loves my parents dogs and I think he'll get a kick out of it. Whenever we go over to their house he scoots across the floor as fast as he can to the door, pointing and saying "arf, arf!" It is way cute.

I was going to do warm and fuzzy for the something to wear component, but then Old Navy was out of the colors I wanted and the website was frustrating and not well stocked as well. So this one will require a bit more thought and searching.

Emma is getting doll clothes (provided I *ahem* get my act together and start sewing my little fingers off) for the something she wants part and I'm not sure about the something she needs one. I'm still considering that one. Gregory is getting press and go giraffes (I thought they looked fun and cute) and a hammer pounding bench thingy for the want and need categories. (not that he needs either, but he does like to bang stuff so having something acceptable to bang on would probably be a good idea!)

Anyways, thanks for posting about this - this has really helped me guide my gift giving thoughts!

I'm getting a kick out of making photo calendars and photo mini-books at the Kodak Easyshare gallery to give to my husband, MIL and Grandmas!

We're giving the kids books, audiobooks, crayola model magic, and the game Settlers of Catan.

Love the pictures of your family above too! It's cool that some of your kids have blue eyes and some have brown (at least it looks that way in the pictures.)

The pics are sooo cute!

This year Q is getting a new bike and some board games.

Walker is getting a trike (and I pray his legs are long enough so his feet touch the pedals!!) and a life size (for a toddler anyway) Superman (SCORE!!)

And Everett is getting a musical stacker.
