The Whole Crew

I had no idea trick-or-treating began around four! When I was a wee lass, we didn't start until after supper and after it was dark. Period. Ever. Zorak pointed out the safety aspect of going while it's still light out, though, and reminded me that we also took myriad trips cross country as youngsters, splayed out in the back of a station wagon, sans any safety restraint whatsoever. Um, okay, so the times they are a'changin'. But it still feels weird to go trick-or-treating while it's still light out. However, since I'm not on the ball with this sort of stuff (except the restraints, yes, the children are all properly strapped in like little astronauts on liftoff), we didn't make it out during daylight hours today, either. But we had fun.

And, since I'm not organized, either, I can't show you the fun we had or the amazingly decorated houses we saw, because we left the camera to guard the house. (??) I had the kids spread out on the rock in the front yard when we arrived home, though, and got a few shots. You can't see the angels singing, because they were behind me, but if you've got more than two children, you can spot the cause of my joy immediately:

Yep, all looking the same direction. Just couldn't top that, so I quit right then and there.

Life is good, indeed.

Kiss those babies!

LOL Love the picture, Dy. :)

We were a bit shocked at the early trick or treating, too. The first one showed up at our door at a little after three. !!

That is a nice picture. We usually start out about 5:30, after most neighborhood folks are home from work. (It's an army town. We all get home at the same time.) We were the first ones out this year, but I want to get home at a reasonable hour, and they are eager to go, too. (I'm the only one in my family who does NOT like Halloween.)

What sweet kids! You did a great job on that pirate costume!

Isn't it funny that you did get an all smiles shot, but it's in the dark with costumes? Maybe you could photoshop it into a Christmas picture. ;)

I wouldn't have a problem getting a Christmas card showing kids in Halloween costumes. It shows their interests at this stage in their lives.

Besides, is Dy gonna wait until there's snow? ;)

Yay, congratulations on the picture! What a cute picture too. Sound like you all had a great time, but I agree - starting trick-or-treating before dark (and before dinner too!) seems really odd. We had our first one at about 5:45, and they continued until about 8 which seems fairly reasonable. I thought you guys were out in the sticks though, I'm surprised you had trick-or-treating at all!

They all look so cute in their costumes! I love the pirate one--really, first-rate sewing job indeed! : )

You got a picture, with all four smiling, still IN costume AFTER trick-or-treating??? Angels indeed... I'll need to summon those same angels around Christmas photo time!

Let's switch states next year! I grew up trick or treating anytime after lunch with the little ones and then after school until way past dark when I was older. I miss that!

LOL! I knew others could share the joy in that!

I'm going to try for an Autumnal shot, with all these gorgeous leaves we have. Can't go anywhere without a chorus of, "PURPLE! Yellow! RED! Ohhhhh, orange, green AND PURPLE!" the entire drive. It's so pretty. But, if that fails, yep, this is this year's card, no doubt about it.

I can't wait for snow. Last year we only got 1/4", and that came after New Year's sometime.

Amber, we are out in the sticks. We had to load up and drive to the nearest town to go trick-or-treating. All along the way, the boys kept saying, "Look! There's a neighbor!" All, um, twice. LOL. I guess the little subdivision we found, though, is *the* place for all the stick-dwellers to congregate, b/c we saw more people there than we've seen at the last three town events put together. LOL.

I got a kick out of this! We went trick-or treating at my in-laws. My father-in-law started getting dinner on the table at 4:00pm so we could get out and get going. I kept thinking, "It's only 4:00!"

He then insisted on going out around 4:30 and was really hurrying the kids to get their costumes on. Again, I kept thinking, "It's only 4:30!"

He took them out (I stayed behind with the babe because it was so darn cold) and they were back by 5:15 or so. He and my mother-in-law kept complaining about how they had only had two families come to the door. I'll bet you can guess what I was thinking!

It so needs to be dark to be able to truly go trick-or-treating. Isn't there some unwritten rule somewhere? ;)

My camera was out of batteries. So I have no pictures of my kids in their costumes. The good news is, my kids wear their costumes around the house for fun, so the odds of me catching all three of them in their costumes in the next few weeks are very, very good.
