I know it all comes together. It does. It has to. And if it doesn't, well, I won't realize that until it's too late and then mere acceptance can replace the misguided hope I've been harboring, right? Right. In the meantime, y'all have shared some great ideas, and made me laugh a lot. Thank you so much.
Today should be sunny and windy. That's a perfect laundry day! Yippee! The boys won't be so thrilled, but that's okay. Slave labor isn't supposed to be fun.
Tomorrow we're going to an Asian arts festival in Decatur. One of the ladies from the WTM boards who'd contacted me about doctors has put together a small group to go and she invited us, also. I'm looking forward to meeting her and her little ones, and the boys are just thrilled. They were beginning to wonder if anybody in Alabama homeschools besides us and the midwives.
We're having a very difficult time showing some restraint in our preparations for the arrival of Gram and The Aunts. The only thing that's slowed us down is that a lot of the goodies we'd like to have on hand are fresh and perishable, and wouldn't be all that impressive if they'd been sitting here for three weeks by the time they arrived. *grin*
The master bedroom is coming along nicely. Not quickly, but nicely. It's going to feel sooooo good to get that room done (and get the queen bed out of the dinky little room it's in now - it's like Romper Room, with wall-to-wall bedding). I think Zorak will bring home a truckload of gravel on Friday, so we can fix the driveway and then we can have the construction dumpster hauled away. That, alone, will do wonders for the outside! (It was supposed to be hauled away a while ago, but they can't get over the driveway with a full load, and that's just been at the bottom of our priorities list until now.) Step-by-step, it's all coming together! And it's fun!
Thursday (yes, this is turning into a "to-do list", hush) we'll clean and get the house ready for company on Friday. Some of our over-an-hour-away friends from church have no school on Friday, so they're coming for a playdate. As long as James doesn't propose marriage, it should be a fun day!
Kiss those babies!

The arts festival sounds like fun! Dumb question here, but is homeschooling really not done much in Alabama, or is it just that you live in a very small town? Alabama is one of the states we are considering (If we Ever sell our house), so I'm curious! We are members of a small hs group that meets weekly, and one of the moms uses The Story of the World. She hasn't actually read WTM, but I do enjoy discussing teaching history with her. Enjoy your get together with the WTM moms!
If James proposes, just make sure to suggest a Very Long engagement.

Oh,Dy.Sounds like a nice, stimulating week/time.Are you starting to feel normal again? It should only keep getting better at this point. The baby keeps getting older and the wildest days will be gone. And the older ones can learn to help with more and more.Good luck! Marcella
Melora, I think there are actually a gazillion homeschoolers here. It's just that we've been so inundated with the house and getting it livable that our "social circle", what social circle we've had, has consisted of the folks at church and the employees at Lowe's. Period. And there aren't many homeschoolers at our church. (Or at Lowe's.) Also, the cover we use isn't very active in the northern end of the state, and until recently I hadn't known of any non-cover-related support groups. (But I did find two just this month!)
Alabama law technically doesn't recognize "homeschooling" - we're all members of some religious cover school, as far as the State is concerned. So, if you want to hs in AL, you have to sign up for a cover school. Blech. Way to waste my money, State Gov't! On the upside, though, there are many that are hands-off and basically exist solely to provide the legal cover that the State mandates. That's nice.
I guess you'd say it's an "easy" state to homeschool in, but my it's-not-the-State's-job-to-raise-my-children perspective wouldn't give it an A, by any stretch of the imagination, if that makes sense.
However, the quality of life here in Northern Alabama is tremendous! The people, the culture, the resources, cost of living, and the food - all get an A++ rating! :-) (Not that I'm trying to influence your decision, *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*)

Yep, you have to pay for oversight you don't want, too. Good government, my butt. *sigh* But I digress.
Things were, I suppose, easier in MD b/c we were illegal as hell, er, um, under the radar. I wasn't about to let them know we even existed. However, if we'd stayed and at some point registered as hs'ers (which we'd have done only if we were forced to), we'd have done the portfolio review option, and they'd have hated (h-a-t-e-d) us. Zorak was going to do all the reviews with the homeschool police because he knew I'd pick a fight over the regulations every. single. time. His plan was to be the wall they couldn't scale. :-) I do love that man.
You know, we had misconceptions about the deep south, too. ;-) But they were pretty much unfounded, or at least that's been our case. We really do love it here.

Dy, Sounds like you pretty much have the hang of everything except Church. Which would be waaaaaaaaaay easier if Zorak was there too ;)
Glad you liked the Easter garden BTW... DS is being 'Popeye' in his hat. It was his halloween costume *lol*
And no, my DH is not military... he had a best friend in the navy, but our hat came from party city *rflol*
Get lots of cuddles in now, cos once the HOT weather hits, you might not want to ;)

What timing! I just heard Milo propose to his stuffed dog.
Thank you for the "heads up" on cover schools. I've heard of them, but never looked into them since "portfolio" evaluation is a very easy option in our area (I brought in a big tote with materials we had used & samples of work, not organized in any way, and the evaluator, also a hs'ing mom, checked off that we were progressing. Do you have to send in work samples & schedules to your cover, or is it mostly just a check?

Melora
