OK, folks, what is this?

This is a clipping of the fruit we found yesterday. For a size perspective - click on it (I hope it's clickable) and note the average 10yo standing beside the apple tree. The tops of the apple tree and the mystery tree. (Edited to add: the fruits are each about the size of a small marble. Definitely unripe, and seem to have seeds inside, not a stone. Maybe that'll help.)

The top of that tree is absolutely laden with berries/fruit...
And here's the trunk, to show you the bark of the tree...
Do we have something edible? (Please say yes.)
Kiss those babies!

We think it might be a Bradford Pear. But, we've never seen one ouside of a subdivision or a yard.

ARGH! You're right. That's it, exactly. *sigh* Oh, well, down she comes. We'll plant something native in its place, though, so that'll work out well. :-)

Thanks for the help, guys!!

I was thinking it was an Asian pear. Similar? I'll have to take a look at that link and see what a Bradford pear is.

Jeepers, your subdivisions must be nicer than ours in the NW. Pear trees? Ours have flowering plums if we're lucky. Not the fruiting kind.

Oh, and silly me, I see the note under the URL, not edible.

Bummer. They look like they would have some potential. Bird and wild critter food maybe?

Thanks for sharing,
