Don't tell the kids, but we're such softies...

"Don't get too near it, kids! It's wild!"

You've *named* it?

*sigh* OK.

So if I say it's a barn cat, will that make it a barn cat?

Kiss those babies!

I think you can call it a barn cat until you start finding it in the house on a semi-regular basis. Or until you take it in to the vet for flea & tick drops and to be spayed/neutered. Good luck!

Read the following in a school playgroup teasing sing-song way:

You've got a caaaaaahhhhhhttttttt nanny nanny poo poo, Dy has a cahhhhhhttttt neener neener ha ha

OK I'm done. What did they name it?

Oh, she does not look like a barn cat...she has that "Oh, they have kids let's just drop her off here" look. Don't worry some of the best start out as strays or drop offs.

She's cute...I, too, want to know the name of your new PET. (Hee Hee!) Ollie would say Hubba Hubba, but he's been "tutored".

You can call it anything you like, but it looks to me like it's "the children's cat".
;o)

Oh fun, a cat! I wish we could have one but unfortunately that will never happen due to allergies for Nathan, Caleb, AND Bob, which rules out getting one even when the kids are all off to college! Sometimes I wish a kitten would just sort of show up . . . and then I come back to reality and realize that then I would be stuck trying to find a home for it, LOL. That kitten looks like a cutie! : )

Oh, a cat! Emily, Fuller, and Neko said to tell you that cats make the best pets.

Since it's you and not me, I can say that it looks like it would make a lovely house cat.

Ok, y'all are absolutely no help at all. And you'll be the first ones I come to for backup when I really need to buy a book, or some chocolate, or something!

Melora, you aren't supposed to take barn cats in for spay/neuter, vaccines, and Frontline? No? Hmpf.

Jess, I am totally ignoring you.

Mere, *sigh* that's what I was afraid of. Her official name is "Fluffy Cutie E----", but they plan to call her Cutie. Right now, I'm hormonal, and it's cute enough to make me nauseaus. But it reminds me of my neices' rabbit that they named "Ghengis Khan Fluffy Bunny", and that makes me smile.

Crissy, perhaps we could go with "the children's barn cat"? Now, how to get her out of the back yard, and into the barn. I need Jean in WI!

Rebel, I'll pass that info along to Zorak, who saw the pictures and just shook his head. :-)

And Staci, yeah, it's okay, b/c if this was you, I'd have said the same thing. One of the reasons I adore you. Want a cat? :-D

Jean in WI is the one whose encouraging advice convinced me that I Could manage a cat. Never thought I'd have one, but Harry has turned out to be a pretty good pet.
I Do know people who spay/neuter their outside cats. But I think once you start with the flea drops your "barn cat" is officially a pet. Depends on your tolerance for a few fleas on critters your kids will be snuggling, I suppose.

We currently have 13 "barn" cats that spend most of their time on our front porch rather than the barn. Not only that, but dh, who always said he hated cats, has started babying them and "training" them to follow him around (and swim, too, but that's another story) by giving them scraps of people food. So now the "barn" cats rush at everyone as soon as the door to the house is opened and we're tripping over cats all the way to the car or wherever else we're going. And they think my camera is food, so they stick their noses right in it while I'm trying to take closeups of flowers. I put my foot down about having them inside, though, since I'm allergic.
