Teamwork

The "help" was entirely Em's idea. Smidge went along with it. They're pulling vines off one of the persimmon trees down by the barn.

And Em made her own chopsticks to handle the persimmons. I don't know if it's a textural thing and she doesn't like touching them, or if she just thought it seemed like a fun idea to try out. She's pretty good with those chopsticks, though.

Why we do what we do, no?

That's so sweet! I can't believe how much control she seems to have with her chopsticks either. Maybe she could teach me? And those cheeks! I just want to squeeze them!

Oh, I love the help! So sweet. You guys are just going to have to keep having children forever, you make such adorable ones. :)

That is the tiniest persimmon I have ever seen, and the sweetest baby girl cheeks I've seen in about ten years, lol.
Love the help-giving photo, too, but those cheeks are too cute!

LB, these are "American Persimmons" - they grow wild in this region, and evidently they aren't ripe until they start to get really, really UGLY. When they wrinkle and begin to discolor (look bruised), that's when they're ripe. I think that's why the jelly is pink. :-D

Julie, I think it was the afternoon sun that made her hair look so blonde. It's still very white/yellow, but is also starting to redden a bit (is that a made up word?)

Jenni, have you tried the "trainer" chopsticks? That's how we've started all the kids, and I think that's the principle she used when she made these. LOL!

LOL at trainer chopsticks- those are the only kind I can use. The kids have moved on to the real thing, but I am still using the ones held together by a dolphin.

Oh.My.Gosh! Cutest thing EVER!!

I have to know. Has anyone eaten a NON-ripe persmmon yet??? I am still scarred from that in my childhood. But I am SO impressed with the persimmon jelly. Mine's in the mail, right??? ;-)

They make them already put together?!?!? I keep rubber bands in my bag so I can make them at the restaurant! LOL!

Melissa, it's not in the mail, solely b/c it hasn't set yet. This will be the longest two weeks, ev-er! And the instructions said not to jostle or disturb the jars. Do you have any idea how hard it is not to pick them up and play with them? Do ya? It's HAARRRDDD. We're a family of pickers. We mess with things. It's killing us not to "disturb" the jars...

Nobody's eaten an unripe one. Mostly, because you warned us ahead of time. Also, because we kind of have to bolster ourselves to eat these things. They aren't the most appealing-looking fruits of the land, ya know?

OK, updated - Zorak ate an unripe one. (I think we forgot to warn him.) He said, "It was horrific."
