Conservation and Common Sense

The guys were up bright 'n early. They got packed. They got dressed. Then they settled in with breakfast to Google the map to the fishing rodeo. It's at Joe Wheeler State Park, but everything around here is named after Joe Wheeler, so we weren't sure, exactly where that is.

They found it.

It's 50 miles away.

For an organized, half-day event.

When we live just two miles south of the TN river.

Um, hey guys, do you want to drive 50 miles, one-way, for that, or do you want to go two miles up the road to the boat dock and fish there?

The boys voted unanimously to hit the dock on our road.

Zorak and I were pleased that they opted to conserve their resources - time, fuel, energy. Not to mention, the thought of spending two hours in the car on a beautiful day like this wasn't horribly appealing to Zorak.

And so, they're out now, fishing and playing and having a grand old time. JT's asleep, and Em and I are going to check on Ike again (y'all are in our thoughts and prayers!), then see if we can make a pie!

What are you up to this beautiful Saturday?
Kiss those babies!

Us? Well, we went to a Build and Grow workshop at Lowes, which is sheer torture for grown ups, but big fun for the kids. Then we tried on all of our winter clothes to see if anything still fit, and some of it does, but Meg will be walking around naked when the cold settles in. I made bread, too. Tomorrow is Jon's birthday, so I'll be wrapping his gifts and baking the requested "Army cheesecake". And always, there is the laundry!

For us Ike was just a strong breeze and not even a drop of rain, but we watched the coverage from Houston this morning where they got HAMMERED. I still know nothing about Galveston.

Other than that we went to our favorite nursery and bought some plants, made a flower bed in the front yard, went to Target to buy new sunglasses because my old pair was trod upon by SJ accidently, and then came home to a crock pot full of beans. That's about it!

I'd say the kids made the right call to opt out of the fish rodeo, and hang with Dad instead. Much better and probably more fun, too.

It rained and rained all weekend long. Some sort of "echo" or "halo" effect from Ike. But it wasn't bad. We were in pretty good spirits all weekend -- guess we know that soon enough it will be *freezing* rain!

Glad you had a great weekend!
