working in the garden, doing my math and Latin, setting up the school room (yes, finally - but no pictures yet, it looks hideously cramped at the moment), running numbers and investment options for the finances, wading through miles of laundry, listening to stories, reading stories, taking a walk around the property to see it through Little Eyes, attending baseball practice, preparing supper, reading more stories, tending to the character training (for me and them, right?), writing letters, and finalizing lesson plans for the rest of the week,to blog about the various knocks and dings being dished out this week to stay-at-home moms and homeschoolers.
But you know,
I was too busy
enjoying my life
to really be bothered.
I suppose that's enough, in itself.

*Garden note: I actually know what those are all pictures of!! WOOHOO!
The first is an iris. I'm so excited to have an iris!
The second is a tulip. It's pretty beat up from the storm, but it is one of THREE now. Each one a different color, and each one on a different side of the tree. :-D
The third... oh, this is my favorite. See the heart? That's the leaf of the redbud. They grow wild out here! The flowers are a gorgeous purple, growing all down the branches, and then the tree erupts in hearts! Isn't that beautiful?
And that final one is the elusive North American Smidge. While not difficult to find, Smidges are often quite difficult to photograph. They move quickly and make very little noise, so you have to shoot fast.

Yeah, I decided I just don't care about that argument any more. The people arguing against being a stay at home mom (for the most part) only know one side of the story anyway. They don't know what my life is like. They're spouting off about something they know nothing of. It would be like me criticizing their choice to have a career. I don't know enough about that. The fact is, we can't do it all. Sacrifices have to be made somewhere, and it's up to the individual to decide what those will be. They have to live with their choices and I have to live with mine. We have a gazillion wild redbuds growing out here. They're on our property, along the road, and there are even more on the uninhabited land to the south of us. I really need to get out and take some more pictures while they're in bloom.
He's looking so grown up. I love the flower pictures. We have a few daffodils popping up, and I can see the beginnings of my hosta coming back at the old house, but still waiting for the rest here. And there's SNOW predicted for the end of the week (it was 79 yesterday!) so I'm hoping the little things stay hidden a bit longer.
What dings? I was dinged? Bummer. I'm so out of it. During Lent, especially.
What a wonderful day (at least the walking around the property bit)! I would be thrilled to find an iris too (though I might have weed wacked some down beside the house yesterday), and your new tulip is beautiful. I am in search of a red bud myself! They are very common around here, and I want one to plant by my new dogwood, but the ones they had a Lowes were just pitiful looking. Ed says one will turn up.
:-) Kind of got it working. I figured out how to reformat the old, dead card, and now it works! I'm going to take the new, unformatted card to Wal-mart today to see if they can extract the pictures. Our camera did come with an upload cord, but we've lost it with every move over the last few years, and... it still hasn't surfaced from the last move.

Melora, you got your dogwood in?? Oh, FUN! Those are my favorite in-bloom tree. But the hearts on the redbuds just give me such warm fuzzies. I hope you find one soon. It hit me the other day that we are missing one crucial Southern plant: magnolia. All this stuff, and not one magnolia tree! How'd that happen? lol.
Gosh, I'm so proud. Both for giving up on the hard head sna knowing all your plants!
And if you want the be all plant snooty, you can tell people that the genus name for Redbud is Cercis.
My boys call them "Heart Trees." They tend to get defoliated to a point about 6 feet off the gound.

Oh my gravy! I think I see pretty little daffodils in picture #1 too. So lovely. Ah, but the elusive NA Smidge...now that's one I certainly need to keep my eye out for.
Ugh...seasons...we have no seasons here. Daffodils and other spring flowers bloom in January, right after Xmas. Kinda puts the kabosh on any "waiting for spring" feelings.

Are those daffodils?? Really? All my other (yellow) daffodils bloomed back in mid-Feb! Wow, how cool. There are two clusters of them in the front yard. Yay. Now we have some idea what they are! WOOHOO! Thanks, Dawn!

(Although me pretending to be knowledgeable about plants is kind of like saying in Mexico that you "speak Spanish" after a whopping one year of high school Spanish. I agree- I think those are some daffs by the tree to the right in the photo. Some kinds of narsicis (sp?) bloom later than others.

I've got two big magnolias at the front of our house. They are pretty, but they drop cones and leaves like you wouldn't believe.

Sniff, sniff, when spring has sprung I miss the south even more. Although it is green up here, and things are bloomin' this cold spell we have now is ridiculous. Thanks for posting some pics. My daughter, momanna98 over at homeschool blogger, and her hubby are going to be looking for a more rural home with acreage this year. We don't know what will happen even if her house will sell either but they will try. Blessings.
