Tour of Homes? Sure, it happens every year around Christmas. Everyone knows about it.
"What is this phenomenon," he asks. "This... Tour of Homes? What's the goal?" (Spoken like a true engineer.)
Well, it's... it's to highlight the historic homes in the area. Sometimes the Chamber of Commerce will sponsor one, and focus on new development. Or people will go all-out decorating and apply to be included on the Tour. Then they sell tickets, and the hosts put out snacks, and why are you staring at me?
But what's the purpose?
It's, well, it's to highlight the historic... um, What?
So, it's just a chance to see inside other people's homes? (And he laughs at me, because I'm a Peeker, and he knows it. If the shades are even slightly open as I walk or drive past a home, I must peek in. I want to see what furniture people have. What colors are on their walls. What type of dining things they have. And if they've draped it all in sparkly Christmas lights, so much the better! Obviously, I have no desire to catch anybody in a less-than-flattering situation, so I don't peek in bedroom windows. But living room? Kitchen? Foyer? Oh, yes, I'm a bonafide Peeker. I admit it.)
*sheepishly* Yeah. :-) It is.
Soooo, can you charge an extra $2.50 to let them see inside the medicine cabinets?
Non-Peekers just don't get it. (And this is probably not the time to mention that one of my "goals" is to get the Forever Home on a tour someday.)

Get your cameras, have the kids help you shift the clutter just out of the frame (or, at least that's how I'm doing it - some of you may not need to, but I definitely do), and snap pictures of your Holiday decorations. If you live in the Phoenix area you can pay a small fortune and go the mansions in Scottsdale just to see how they decorate for the holidays. My friends have gone. They love it and want me to go too. :) I'm with ya, sister. And the conversation with Zorak, well, that was hilarious and very close to home. My husband would say "huh?". Oh, the life of an engineers wife. :)
Apparently some - maybe most - of these home tours are pretty hi-falutin'. The one put on by the Tallapoosa Historical Society is in its infancy, and is to raise money for the historical society, which has a tiny museum off the town square. This year's tickets were $15 apiece, and included tours of 6 or 7 homes and 4 businesses.
But Zorak is right - these tours are for peepers! Although I don't care about decorating, I do like to see how the inside of a house is carved into rooms. And like you, I can't resist looking into windows if the shades or curtains are open! I love those cozy domestic tableaux presented by an open window, a lit room, and a dark night - and yes, only the common areas of the house, please! - no bedrooms or bathrooms!
Oh,Dy!I am also of the peekers society.I like looking in open windows when we{re out driving in the evening and enjoy seeing people´s houses inside and leave the clutter there please-I like that too!
Yep, I'm a peeker. It is the only way that I can come up with ideas for my own home. You see, I am imaginationally impaired. (ahem..awkward pause)
Anyway, I have noimagination, so the best that I can do is copy the ideas of others. Works for me!
Yay... I am not alone. I thought I was the only "weirdo" who looked in people's windows. I love to see decorating styles of the neighborhood, placement of furniture, colors, etc. My husband is not an engineer, but an electronic technician and he just.does.not. get it.
I love peeking. I'm a peeker. Such fun to see the paint colors, the ideas, the warmth of a lit up home. So bring it on! I'm excited to see your tour.
