Belated Birthday Photos

Now that our printer issues have been mostly resolved (currently, everything is sitting smack in the middle of the room, and the cords make a lovely clothesline booby-trap for unsuspecting children... so, not *all* issues, obviously), I could upload photos from, oh, the beginning of September.

So, without further ado, here's Smidge's birthday. Three! He's three! (And still hooked on Thomas, the crack-dealing toddler toy...)

"Daddy made this cake just for me!" He was so happy, he really needed no other gift. This cake was everything he could have hoped for.

And here's Smidge, at the tail end of the day, reading a book with his "Me-wah", who has been a wonderful addition to the family.

(The cake was made from a 9X13 rectangle and a 4" circle cake. The smokestack is taken from the bottom of the rectangle. To Smidge, this will always be a "Thomas cake", but we just can't look at it without seeing another cartoon character. Can you see him?)

And, just for fun, a gratuitous babies shot:

Kiss those babies!

Who is the mysterious, subliminal cartoon character? I can't see it. :(

Oh! I forgot to mention how adorable these pictures are. Smidge is very much a "boy" now, but he still looks so adorably babyish. How are you not squeezing him all day long?

Dy said...

I can't tell until others have had a chance to guess. ;-)

Oh, but I do squeeze him all day long. He still gives the best random hugs and run-by smooches! He's just a squeezable, energetic little bundle of happiness in my life.

I don't see it, either! But the cake is nice and the kids are adorable.

Aw, how cute. He's getting to be such a big boy. I have a 3 year old Thomas obsessed boy too. You have my pity. And when did that baby get that big. That shouldn't be allowed.
Excellent job on the cake. I am very impressed. But I don't "see" the second character.
I'm also guessing tat right about know you're getting sick of the "Wow...they all look alike." and "Is THAT one a boy too?" comments.
BTW, love the map placement.

Ed says Sponge Bob, but I don't really see him. I don't know.
Great cake! Zorak is a man of many talents!

Love the pictures! Your kids are darling.

Happy Birthday to your Smidge!

(Is it Road Runner?)

I'm with Hillary, I don't see it. :-(

But kudos to you on the Wilton extravanza! My boys see those cakes and ask me if I can do make them. I tell them that they are for professional bakers.*snort*

(Note to self: never let my children see Dy's blog or my lie will be brought to the light.)

I GOT IT!!

SPONGEBOB!!

I went nack and saw that you said that there were two pieces to the cake.

What do I win? Cake decorating lessons?

Hmm...the only other cartoon character I can think of is Spongebob...am I close? But Thomas the Train is a pretty cute idea for a birthday cake. :) When one of my brothers was about three or four years old he was really into pigs. I mean, REALLY into pigs. My mom made his birthday cake in the shape of a pig, pink frosting and all. It was actually quite a feat, and very cute.

Emily, I'll bet the pig cake was great! How fun.

Laney, you would not believe how *easy* these things are to do! I don't mean easy, relatively speaking, I mean completely easy. Really.

Sheila, you know, we get more of the "so you FINALLY got a girl, huh?" *blink* Um, yeah, and the other three are failed attempts? WTH? No. She took about nine months to bake and oddly enough, at the end, we got a BABY. People are so weird. We do get a few of the "is that one a boy, too" but somehow those people don't come across as smug as the others, just more like bored, color-blind statisticians (b/c she is inevitably wearing pink or lavender).

OK, it's not sponge bob. Hmmm, maybe it's not as obvious a goof as we thought it was. Or perhaps, and more likely, y'all read better quality cartoons than we do. ;-)

What a fantastic cake! I am so impressed.

Wow, it is hard to believe that Smidge is three. Lorelai just turned 18 months yesterday and it seems to be flying by. I wish they would stay small and loveable forever.

Well, my kids say the face looks like Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales.

Okay, I'm thinking I'm pretty way off base here, but I'm goign out on a limb. Back in the early to mid '80's there was a cartoon on tv Saturday mornings about Rubik's Cube. And I think your Thomas looks a little like Rubik.

Looks like Smidge's bday was a fun filled one. We have a Thomas loving 3 yr old in our house too. The kids are just adorable like always.

ps-the foreclosure thing is going well. we are getting close to putting a bid in on our first property within the next month. we are so excited!

I still don't know who the character is...

I came back to look again and and maybe get some hints from the comments when I saw my horrific grammar and spelling. Sheesh!

The elusive cartoon character is keeping me from concentrating on anything productive. *grin*

I'm with Stephanie, I think it looks like Bob the tomato. It's the eyes.

Aw...he's three. Great pictures.

Thanks for posting the pictures, they're great! Smidge and Emily are both such cuties. I can't believe how big Emily has gotten already, that's just amazing.

I have no guesses for the cake - my first thought was R2D2, but I realize that he isn't a cartoon character. :-)

Printer, shminter. You waited on these pictures so I'd be less than a week out from Leo's party and see the cake and think "gee, I could do that" and EVERYTHING that has ever blown up, melted, imploded, exploded, or run away from this house has started with me uttering those words.

Adorable pictures. Except the cake. ;)

(Now I'm jotting down how you made it in between muttered curses. Humph.)

Okay. I have to say that I think that is a fantastic cake. But when you said that there was a subliminal cartoon character hiding I took a second look. A 3rd. A 4th. Then showed it to DH. We both have an idea, but I think I'll wait for you to reveal it.

Precious pictures! I have a very similar photo of Sarah Jane and Ben with our swing. So cute...Is she dressed as a little lady bug?

C'mon! Who is it?! :)
Dy, I love your blog. You have such a way with words. Well done.

I'm guessing Bob the Tomato for the mystery character. The more I look at it, the more the face looks like his. So when do we find out?

I still think it's the Road Runner.
