The Story of a Bathroom

Once upon a time, not so very long ago (although it seems that way for those who've been waiting for pictures), there was a bathroom. We use the term loosely, for although it was a "room", one wouldn't bathe in it. Or near it. Or, most likely, anywhere on the premesis. But, I digress...

It wasn't a bad bathroom. Well, no, scratch that. It was. It was bad. But it didn't have to stay that way. Enter our frog-kissing family, looking for their castle (castles, princes, work with me here, okay?)

They took one look:

And said, in a large and do-not-question-me-just-GO voice,
Boys, you need to go play outside while we look at the house...

And so, after a long period of cringing and whining, they set to work. The first thing to do was to get rid of everything. As it turned out, most of it (under the squishy linoleum, anyway) was already gone. Handy, eh?

(Interesting Note: if the floor feels spongy when you walk on it, this is what it probably looks like underneath.)

And now, it's done. We still need to put on the door trim and the baseboard (so please ignore that part, but that's going to be done all at once, when the rest of the rooms are ready. And there's no vanity mirror up, as we are hoping to find some great funky antiques to hang in there - one over each sink.

You can view the photo album of the transition if you'd like to see the bath from start to finish. (I spared y'all the plumbing and wiring shots because not only are they pretty boring if you aren't the one who put them in, but there was a lot of swearing during the wiring portion of this project. So this is a fairly glossed over version of what it took to redo the bath.)

However, it's done. And it feels very, very good!

And our company just rang - they're in town!! I'm going to go meet them at the market and bring 'em on in!

Kiss those babies!

Okay, I'm a semi lurker. I have been enjoying your blog for quite awhile but never really had too much to say or offer. I guess, I can come out and be totally honest now. I thought you guys were INSANE to tackle that house! But now, I want more...more...MORE pictures.
What an incredibly awesome job you both have done. WOW, that bathroom is amazing. Please keep the photos coming. I love vicariously having the courage to tackle a project like that through you guys.

You named that 5am photo of you "igortheapprentice" OMGosh I laughed so hard Isabelle ran in to see what was up...LOL

Oh and the fluting on the toilet! Isabelle said "ooooh potty!" but all I could think is "I wouldn't want to CLEAN that!" but it sure is purdy to look at! ;-)

OK, the mold in the photos was soooo much worse than what I had imagined. I admired Zorak for tackling both the mold and the snake-in-the-window, but words cannot describe how much more I am impressed.

That's all I'm going to say about the mold. :)

The bathroom looks lovely! So warm and inviting and CLEAN.

Enjoy your guests! Blessings!

Just amazing!!! It is such a nice looking bathroom! I'm just in awe at what you accomplished.
And now I have an itch to go tear apart my bathroom .. of course I wouldn't know what to do next, so I guess I'll pass on that urge! LOL

The pictures are really amazing! What a great job you've done! Thanks for posting them! (Please excuse the overuse of the exclamation point. It is my favorite form of punctuation!)

Oh wow, that is fantastic! You guys have done a wonderful job. I am was so impressed at all those shots of the house torn down to the studs. You and Zorak are brave folks :-) I'd like to think we could do that sort of thing, but I rather have my doubts. It is so neat to see the pictures and remember back to your posts where you talked about doing it. Now I am really looking forward to seeing pictures of the rest of the house!!

Have a great time with your visiting family!

Wow!!!! I am So impressed. The finished product is absolutely gorgeous (Love the ceiling trim! And the floor!). I'm glad you included all the work shots, though, for the weak and mechanically incompetent among your readers (that would be me) who might otherwise look at your "before & after" shots and think that they might actually be able to fix up a down-on-its-luck house! Enjoy your company.
Cordially,
Melora

That Zorak character, do you rent him out? and if so whats it going to cost me? Also you must come with it, by the way, I have a swear jar, everytime you swear you gotta add a quarter. If you're anything like me, I'll make money. :)

Actually I was just checking in to make sure ya'll didn't get blown away.

One of these days we gotta get together for that promised BBQ, your place, my place or somewhere in the middle, 15 - 16 years is just too long.

Cheers

Oh, wow! I called Hubby in to see that floor "At least we don't have to do THAT!". We're almost ready for before-and-after's of the basement. Just a few things to set into place . . .

I agree with Jess. If I had four lads in the house, a fluted potty would not be a blessing to me. But this is your forever home, and you sound happy.

Once on college band tour, during homestays, a group reported that the house they stayed in had four boys in the family and a urinal in the bathroom.

Take a breather and enjoy the fruits of your hard work. Rest up and be ready to tackle whatever comes along next.

Stunning! You are so brave to even *think* of tackling such a job. Kudos to you!!!
