We have got to get us one (three?) of these! Wow, what a fantastic addition to any outdoor space.
Of course, we wondered if we could make a hammock fairly easily.
Then we tried to figure out what kind of hammock would be best.
And THEN, I was talking with Melissa, who mentioned they have camping versions!
Well, let's just say that was several.

we have a hammock. Let's just say that it's not a relaxing sort of hammock. It's more of a thrill ride.
I'm hinting aroudn for the camping hammock that comes with its own stand. It folds up just like a camp chair. I am quuite giddy about the idea.
The kids got me a hammock for my birthday. Mayan hammocks are more comfortable than the kind with thicker ropes and spreader bars, and that's the kind they bought me. I think they're fairly inexpensive, and mine will fit the whole family in it--although not with as much personal space as I typically like on a hot day. Dh and I can lie in it together quite comfortably, and when I'm lying in it alone, I can double (and then some) the extra over the top of me to make a cocoon if I want. Josh wanted one to replace his regular bed a while back, and we refused that idea. I have to say that I did think about throwing out our bed and replacing it with a hammock after trying out my birthday present, though. It is soooo comfy!
Oh good! I clicked all the links and I see you found the camping cocoons with the bug netting. I so want one of those. And guess what! Danny was talking to someone the other day and I heard him say he would like to do some more backpacking someday. What?!? I thought he was so over that. My Appalachian Trail dream may just come true without me having to go it alone. Of course, when I questioned him on it, he said he'd prefer to do horse packing rather than carry the packs ourselves. Pooh! I wouldn't mind not carrying a big, heavy pack, but the horses just seem like they'd be a hassle and also limit where we could go. I likes to scramble and make my own trail sometimes:o)
Sheila, um, yeah, thrill ride is kind of why I was thinking more than one. A Mommy Hammock, available by invitation only (for those times when I'm just not up for riding the ride), and a Family Hammock, that's fair game for all. Think they'd go for it? (Me neither.)
Jenni, I love the Mayan ones. But I Fear The Mold. Things just don't ever get dry here. I mean, I *love* the green on our porch and balcony, but it was also a somewhat practical choice, kwim?
Wow! You might have someone to hike the AT with you? (James is emerging as a likely candidate, here. He not only enjoys hiking, but he's funny, which makes the longer days more enjoyable out in the backcountry.) :-)
I love the last hammock in your post. Ian and Dan both have camping hammocks - which make great sense here in the land of the mosquito! Me? I want the giant hammock and a big shady porch to hold it!

I was wondering if you could give us inside look at your homeschooling schedule and the curriculums you are using. I have been reading your blog since 2003 and have a lot of respect for you and Zorak. I have a very bright six year old who is reading chapter books and flying through math and I would love some guidance on how to fill our days.

Anon, thanks for the kinds words. We're really still learning and planning as we go, but I'll gladly share our plans for this year, and some of the great picks we've found over the years. I'm sure some of the other readers here will share theirs, too - homeschoolers are awesome like that (and, we're all a bit curriculum-junkie-ish, which is fun).
