What do you do with Baby Girl Hair? Zorak and I both keep thinking she really needs a haircut, but... well, the "classic little boy cut" probably isn't the thing to do. Yet, that's all we can think of. I need hair help, here. (Ha. Alliteration in the morning - sorry.)
In the front, it's starting to get into her eyes. She's got that Detroit Rock City thing going.
From the back, she looks like an albino Rastafarian.
She has a moderate amount of hair (well, more than any of the boys at this age, anyway). And it's made of silk, I think. Other than the dreds, it's not going to hold anything like clippies. Not terribly long, yet, although it's hard to tell sometimes.
So... uh, do I just trim the bangs (fringe, whatever - the part above her forehead) and call it good for now? Keep brushing it to the side and hope it'll stay? Ignore it and pretend I don't know what people are talking about when they say we've got to do something with that child's hair? What do you do with Baby Girl Hair?

I've just given Bilby (1 year) her first haircut—6 months earlier than her brother!
I basically cut straight across the front—turns out her hair 'bounces' like mine, so it's a rather short fringe... and straight across the back (she'd had a rat's tail almost from birth).
I did wait until after her first birthday, figuring there'd be a lot of photos of that, and not wanting too many records if I botched it majorly:-)
Before the cut, she spent a lot of time with uneven fountains (her hair has a definite 'direction', so one didn't really work) to keep it out of her eyes, especially when swimming!
I figure I'll keep doing this style of cut until it thickens sufficiently to level out (at the moment just the bottom edges are level, the rest of her head is covered in natural layers:-) ). Then I might have to think more... I probably won't try the shears that i'm thinking I'll use when Puggle gets a bit older:-)

Don't cut it!! She'll lose her powers! :-)) I bought itty bitty tiny rubber bands from walmart, I think they are in the baby clippy section and just put two rubber band pigtails going out of the top of her head. It's hard at first, wetting the hair helps. You could always try headbands. My daughter never kept them in, but I do see kids wearing them so some kids must like them. Putting up with this stage is so worth it once her hair gets long enough to have real cute dos.
I love 'doll-cut'....just cut the fringe short, short enough that you wouldn't bother to keep fliping them to the side...
back, cut only if it looks 'out of shape' if not leave it...
if she perspire easily, maybe can consider cutting it above the shoulders to keep her cool...
Cut in bangs, then cut everything else level/even... Of course you wont have much hair for a while, but eventually it'll grow long enough to be 'long' hair cut :)
I think you'd best do something with it; little girls with unkempt hair look uncared for, although I know that's not at all the case with your little one!
That's funny because I was thinking about cutting bangs on my short person the last couple days. But bangs aren't really "in", are they? (Like I know anything about "in".)
If memory serves, A&K had hair a bit like Em's only darker... and less of it at that age. It was scraggly for years. I think I did trim some bangs when they got really bad but not too short or they'd have a little part clean cut and the rest a mess. I did the little rubber band thing with them too, when they'd keep them in.
Trim off anything else that's way out there but I say go easy on the attempts to get it all clean just yet if you're trying to keep a girl look about her.

No real advice, but "albino Rastafarian" made me spit coffee onto the screen.
I trimmed my daughter's bangs when she was that age. Her hair is made of "silk" as well.
:-D Thanks for all the great advice, guys. I have a pretty good grip on what to do with her hair once she has "little girl" hair. It's just this "baby girl" hair that's been eluding my mental powers. However, I think we have a plan, now. Thank you! Thank you!

My little sister had that wispy, white-blond baby hair for several years. Mom finally got some cute barrettes and used one to pull the hair back off her face. Not *straight* back, kind of off to the side. Then, add a squirt of hair spray to hold the clip in.
